From staff reports
A new scholarship has been created to help local youths attend the Scenic Rivers YMCA’s summer day camp.
The Fred McIlhattan Camp Coffman Scholarship Fund was established at the Scenic Rivers YMCA by the former local lawmaker’s family.
The YMCA created the scholarship fund in McIlhattan’s memory with his wife, Teresa, and their children, Andrea McIlhattan Stake and Fredrick McIlhattan Jr.
McIlhattan had served on the YMCA Camp Coffman board of directors for many years.
He was passionate about serving his community in ways that left an impact, and his combined love for the outdoors and children led him to invest his own time and talents to YMCA Camp Coffman.
The Fred McIlhattan Camp Coffman Scholarship will provide opportunities for local youths to attend YMCA Summer Day Camp. The fund will provide financial aid to children with low income or family circumstances that may prevent them from attending camp.
The McIlhattan family has made the first contribution to the scholarship fund.
Scholarship assistance can be obtained through the Clarion County YMCA and Oil City YMCA. Parents can fill out an application requesting help with summer camp for youths ages 6 to 12.
Registration for the summer program is underway.
