Local organizers for Wreaths Across America in Venango County, Pennsylvania, are seeking sponsors for wreaths to honor veterans this holiday season. In its third year in the county, the program has expanded to five cemeteries, including new locations in the Franklin area, with 1,200 wreaths planned for placement on veterans’ graves. Last year, about 370 wreaths were laid at two cemeteries with support from the Civil Air Patrol. This year’s ceremonies will occur on December 14, with formal events at noon at Brandon, Graham, and St. Patrick’s cemeteries, and remembrance gatherings at 1 p.m. at Pioneer and Nicklin cemeteries. Sponsorships are open until December 3. Founded in 2007, Wreaths Across America aims to remember, honor, and teach about veterans’ sacrifices, a tradition that started in 1992 and has since expanded to over 4,600 locations nationwide.
