The Winnifred Tonkin Guild’s annual service project is underway in Venango County, where volunteers are collecting new clothing, personal care items, and household essentials to distribute to residents through local agencies. The project includes a major event called the In-gathering at the Oil City YWCA, where collected items are packed and immediately distributed. Founded to honor Winnifred Tonkin and boost recipients’ self-esteem by providing only new items, the Guild is supported by 19 directors and led by officers Maureen James, Wendy Thompson, Gail Welch, and Linda Skuse. The group also collaborates with the Oil City School District on a shoe program for young students. Donations are encouraged and accepted through local contacts.
