STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The National Weather Service has confirmed that Saturday’s strong storms spawned one, not two, tornadoes in western Pennsylvania.
The first touched down about 6:30 p.m. near Scandia, a village in Warren County, about 65 miles southeast of Erie. The small tornado was on the ground for about two miles and its path was about 40 yards wide. The National Weather Service categorized it as EF1, with winds between 100 and 110 mph.
The other was reported by a trained spotter about 10 miles east of Slippery Rock about 7:50 p.m. But the weather service on Monday says an assessment of ground damage didn’t confirm it touched down.
There was no major damage or injuries associated with either storm.
