The annual Allegheny Valley Conservancy river cleanup yielded less trash than in previous years, according to an AVC news release.

The usual cans, bottles and plastic were found by the volunteers who helped steward the river during the Saturday cleanup, the release said. Other items included 10 tires, pieces of an entire car and a combination safe.

This year’s sponsors, the release said, were Steve and Patti English, of Henrys Bend, who provided the starting point; the Oil City Boat Club, at Rockmere, for the takeout point; Klapec Trucking Co. for the dumpster donation; and Oil City Agway and an anonymous donor for the prizes.

Planning and supplies were provided by Venango Conservation District and American Rivers, according to the release.

AVC’s next event, on Sept. 6, will be a dedication of its newest property along Sandy Creek. AVC said the property was given to the organization by two landowners.

The Woll/Nathanson Preserve will protect the water quality and wildlife habitat as well as provide more access for the public to enjoy the natural resources, the release said.
