Volunteers needed for tax aide program

From staff reports

The Venango County Senior Volunteer Program, in cooperation with the AARP Tax-Aide Program, is looking for volunteers age 55 and older to help prepare taxes for low- and middle-income residents, with special attention to those 60 years of age and older. Volunteers are needed for the Cranberry Place Senior Center site at the Cranberry Mall.

Volunteers must complete and pass the IRS training course to become a certified volunteer tax counselor before they can assist taxpayers.

The training course is free for volunteers and will be held the first week of January.

Trained volunteers will prepare federal and state income tax and property tax and rent rebate forms.

People who are interested and need more information may call Monica Vanderhoof in the SVP office at (814) 432-9723.
