TITUSVILLE – Screening of video entries for a contest sponsored by the Titusville YWCA and NWPA Tobacco Control Program will be held Wednesday.
The event is in support of Kick Butts Day and will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Titusville YWCA at 201 N. Franklin St., Titusville.
Titusville middle and high school students were behind and in front of the camera to create public service announcements for their peers and community on the dangers of e-cigarettes/vaping or of smokeless/spit tobacco use.
The contest will conclude with Wednesday’s screening of the videos and a “YWCA People’s Choice” ceremony.
“We wanted the kids to have fun while they create and share useful information” said Ashleigh English, executive director of the YWCA, and the Kick Butts Day event organizer. “We have very high rates of spit tobacco use in the area, particularly with our youth, so it’s important that the kids take the lead and get the message out that chew isn’t a safe alternative to smoking.”
