Venango Chamber Orchestra to mark 30th year with free concert Sunday

From staff reports

The Venango Chamber Orchestra will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin.

This will be the 30th anniversary concert for the orchestra, which normally performs two free concerts each year — one in the spring and one in the fall. This will be the first concert since the pandemic curtailed performances.

Each concert features live classical and popular music that ranges from composers such as Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Debussy and Schubert to Duke Ellington.

Local musicians include accomplished high school students who are able to participate in live orchestral performances as they broaden their musical experience.

The organization is supported by donations from the community, and the concerts are always free to the public.

There will be a reception following the performance in the lobby of the theatre to celebrate this 30th anniversary event.

The orchestra is led by conductor Terri Wittreich and concertmistress Nancy Simpson.
