A tropical splash will brighten up the end of summer on Friday when Two Mile Run County Park hosts its inaugural back to school luau.
The event for all ages will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, and entry is free.
The party will include crafts, games, a movie showing, a bonfire on Crosby Beach, a limbo contest and a hula-hooping demonstration and contest.
“He’ll do a few games with the kids on the beach,” Kauffman said. “And we’ll have a little dance area set up on the beach so the kids will be able to dance.”
Also, the park will be showing “Moana” on the Frey Patio, the pavilion above the concession stand overlooking Crosby Beach, with free popcorn and water provided by Venango County Human Services.
Several local food vendors will be set up, and the park concession stand will be open.
And since the traditional Hawaiian luau often includes kalua pork, which is a pig roasted in the ground wrapped in banana leaves, in keeping with tradition Kauffman said there will be pulled pork — it will just be cooked in a smoker instead of banana leaves in the ground.
Kauffman added that groups such as Youth Alternatives, the Venango Fatherhood Initiative and Human Services of Venango County will have tables set up with crafts and games, and the county will have a build-your-own-lei station for kids to make their own leis.
“It’ll be fun,” Kauffman said. “We have water, we have a beach, so it fits.”
