The tri-county area’s November seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was down from the previous month, according to the state Department of Labor & Industry.
Venango County’s rate of 5.1% is seven-tenths of a percentage point below October and 1.1% below September. In November of last year, the rate was 7.3%.
Clarion County’s rate of 4.9% is 1% below October and 1.3% below September. In November of last year, the rate was 6.2%.
Elsewhere in the region
Mercer County’s rate of 5.5% is five-tenths of a percentage point below October and nine-tenths of a percentage point below September. In November of last year, the rate was 7.8%.
Crawford County’s rate of 5.0% is seven-tenths of a percentage point below October and 1.1% below September. In November of last year, the rate was 6.9%.
State, U.S. statistics
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was down three-tenths of a percentage point over the month, to 5.7%. The U.S. rate fell four-tenths of a percentage point from its October level, to 4.2%.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force — the estimated number of residents working or looking for work — decreased 10,000 over the month. Resident unemployment fell for the ninth consecutive month, down 18,000.
The state’s total nonfarm jobs were up 13,500 over the month, to 5,781,800, the seventh consecutive gain.
Jobs rose from October levels in eight of the 11 industry supersectors, with the largest increase in trade, transportation, and utilities (plus-5,700).
Over the year, total nonfarm jobs were up 144,000, with gains in 10 of the 11 supersectors. Leisure and hospitality had the largest 12-month gain, up 46,300 jobs from last November.
Other supersectors include construction, logging, financial activities, professional and business services, and education and health services.
All supersectors remained below their February 2020, pre-pandemic job levels.
