The light fell on a pickup truck on Thursday and police had to shut down Franklin’s main stretch while a bulldozer removed the pole from atop the vehicle.
Police said the truck received moderate damage from the accident and was driven from the scene.
Franklin Police Chief Mark London said in a news report that city officials had checked the structural integrity of all poles in the area just a few years ago.
As for what caused the pole to fall into the roadway, “It was just age,” Jamieson said.
With the light out of service for the time being, Franklin officials have erected a pedestrian crossing sign at the crosswalk.
The sign will remain in place until the pole can be replaced or fixed.
