Titusville post office officially renamed after Edwin Drake

President Joe Biden has signed legislation to rename the Titusville U.S. Post Office after Edwin L. Drake, the pioneer of the American oil industry. Spearheaded by Congressman Mike Kelly, the renaming honors Drake’s groundbreaking 1859 innovation of using an iron pipe to drill for oil, which sparked the Pennsylvania oil rush and transformed global economies. The post office at 135 W. Spring St. will now bear his name, cementing Drake’s legacy in American history. His original tools are preserved at the Drake Well Museum in Titusville.
