Titusville man facing charges related to thefts

A transient Titusville man is facing charges in connection with several thefts in the Titusville area.

Corry state police said in a criminal complaint that a utility trailer and ATV were reported stolen in June from two different properties with Titusville addresses.

Later the same day that the ATV was reported stolen, on June 14, police received a call from a close relative of Shawn McCauley, 46, who said she believed McCauley had dropped off a stolen trailer on her property in Cherrytree Township, the complaint said.

Police went to her residence and confirmed that the trailer was indeed stolen, the complaint said.

Police found numerous items inside the trailer, including a shotgun, according to the complaint,

On June 15, McCauley returned the stolen ATV, which he said he had purchased from someone for $200, but he couldn’t provide any other information, the complaint said.

Then on June 16, the man whom the ATV was returned to called police to tell them that a vacant residence he owned, where the ATV had been stolen from, had been broken into and nine guns were stolen, the complaint said.

The shotgun and other items found in the trailer or left at McCauley’s relative’s house were discovered to belong to the man whose vacant property was broken into, according to the complaint.

McCauley was charged with two felony counts each of receiving stolen property and possession of firearm prohibited as well as four misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property.

He was placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied due to him being a transient and flight risk, and his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Central Court.
