Titusville man among PennDOT employees recognized

From staff reports

A Titusville man is among 32 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employees statewide recognized for outstanding performance.

Mark A. Nicholson

Bridge engineer Mark A. Nicholson received the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT’s highest recognition, for his work with Oil City-based District 1, which covers Venango, Forest, Crawford, Mercer, Warren, and Erie counties.

According to a PennDOT news release, Nicholson’s accomplishments include championing cost-saving bridge programs, such as link-slab bridge and deck-waterproofing innovations.

Before becoming bridge engineer, Nicholson managed the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Improvement Project, the largest design project in District 1, the release said. His comprehensive community and stakeholder engagement are recognized by the state as a best practice.

In his current position, the release said, Nicholson led the response to two major bridge hits on Interstate 90 in under a year.

“Among his colleagues, Mark is known for his strong work ethic, willingness to help others, and partnerships with the communities throughout the northwest region,” said Brian McNulty, district executive.

“PennDOT is lucky to have someone with his knowledge of bridges and focus on good stewardship of the limited financial resources allotted to transportation.”

The awards are presented annually to employees who represent the department’s values of service, performance, and integrity.
