The Clarion Call report
Clarion University
Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium is currently undergoing a complete renovation, with plans to add new facilities along with overhauling others.
The Tippin building has served as the home for Clarion University’s basketball, volleyball and swim teams. It has also been used as a meeting place for university classes such as Tai Chi and intramural and club sports. The theatre department has also used its dance rooms to rehearse for dance concerts the university puts on.
Since the project began in March, the exterior has changed dramatically, with the front extended and built higher for the new entrance and lobby. Although an update has not yet been released, initial blueprints include four new wings. There are also plans to add new locker rooms for the pool, the creation of an auxiliary gym and a two-story weight lifting facility. The basketball court is designed to have a complete overhaul, along with the natatorium. A new combination swimming/diving pool is also planned.
The project is being funded, designed and constructed by the Department of General Services of the Commonwealth.
