Tickets available for Fighter’s Ball

From staff reports

The ninth annual Fighter’s Ball will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Quality Inn in Franklin. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the fundraiser that benefits local cancer patients in a variety of ways are being sold through Sunday.

The Fighter’s Ball has been a main fundraiser hosted by The Chocoholics for a Cause Relay For Life team.

“Our team is mighty, but small,” said organizer Connie Shull. “We needed extra help this year.”

Shull credits the Franklin-Oil City Zonta Club with providing extra support for this year’s ball. “They always are doing things to help support the community, and they will be supporting us with their help at the event,” she said.

The annual Fighter’s Ball used to be held in October, but this year it has been moved to the last Saturday in September as part of the kickoff month for the Venango County Relay for Life.

Tickets for the ball cost $35.

The event features a buffet dinner, silent auction, cash bar, dancing, and a photographer.

Proceeds that are gathered through sponsorships and ticket sales help to provide services for people in Venango County who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Funds that are raised through the project provide support to the Road to Recovery Program, which provides transportation services for cancer patients who need a ride to their treatment centers both locally and out of the area.

The event also raises funds to provide patients with vouchers for wigs and to help staff the national call center for cancer information – (800) ACS-2345 – with trained cancer specialists. The call center is available 24 hours a day.

Funds raised through the Fighter’s Ball also help to provide discounted hotel stays at HOPE Lodges for cancer patients who need to travel to obtain their best treatment options.

Support is also designated for research projects that help to develop new and advanced treatment options for people facing cancer.

People who want to purchase tickets to the ball have until Sunday to get them at the Quality Inn at Franklin, the Liberty Street Ale House in Franklin, Oil City Wholesale and Floral Design, or by calling Shull at (814) 676-5759.
