The RET reduces Social Security benefits for individuals who have not reached full retirement age but continue to work and earn wages. This legislation aims to retroactively restore benefits reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent such reductions in future crises. Thompson emphasized that this measure addresses the unfair impact on those who returned to work during emergencies and removes barriers to service in future public health crises.
