The Franklin Area School Board faced a $2.9 million deficit when passing its budget in June, hoping for relief from state funding. However, the governor’s budget fell short, reducing the deficit to $1.8 million. Superintendent Eugene Thomas explained that the district would cover the shortfall with the general fund, despite previous years’ deficits mainly due to emergency repairs. The district is now debt-free and has been cutting costs, positioning it for better financial health. The board also approved repairs and discussed upcoming projects for the 2024-25 school year, including various facility upgrades and the integration of sixth graders into the high school.
