If you are looking for an indoor or outdoor cat, Clarion PAWS in Shippenville said “now” is the time to adopt.
The Shippenville shelter currently has 19 cats in a temporary enclosure that need to find indoor-outdoor or barn homes.
“Some of them are very sweet, some could become friendly with some work and others are truly feral cats,” PAWS said.
The 19 are in addition to the 89 cats that are housed inside the shelter currently.
“It has been a very bad year for adoptions for all rescues and shelters,” PAWS said.
Thirteen of the outdoor felines came from a woman who is being evicted and have nowhere to go. The rescue also has six from Clarion that were living around the old KFC building but that is now gone.
The rescue said some of the cats are not friendly but that the kittens may be able to come around if they were worked with. All of them have been fixed. They tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV. They were given their rabies and distemper vaccines, treated for worms, fleas and ear mites.
The rescue is asking for a $35 re-homing fee or donation to help cover the cost of the cats’ medical care.
Meanwhile inside, the shelter has a total of 37 kittens at the PAWS house.
“That is an all time high for us,” the rescue said.
Edith and Effie are two of the felines the shelter has available.
“Edith and Effie are two very lovable girls. These two siblings have unique calico markings on their heads and tails with completely white bodies. Edith has a large black spot on her head and is outgoing and loves to play. Effie is a bit shy but, with her sister for back up, loves to play and sprawl out on your lap,” the shelter posted on its Facebook page earlier this week.
The shelter also put out a plea for Friskies Pate canned food.
“With 80 plus mouths to feed we go through quite a lot,” the shelter said.
Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.
