The Franklin, located at 1340 Liberty St. in Franklin, ceased operations last Thursday.
In a letter sent out to groups and individuals who had been planning to rent space in the club, the 133-year-old building was cited as having suffered a “serious structural fault” that no longer allowed it to be safe for hosting events.
The letter stated deposit refunds will be issued and also listed alternative event venues in Franklin, Reno, Foxburg and Cooksburg.
Daniel and Hayley Merchant purchased the Liberty Street landmark in December 2015 for $250,000 from Gary L. Baker in bankruptcy court. Baker had operated the business as The Commons at Franklin.
Daniel Merchant couldn’t be reached for comment Monday.
