The Venango County Veterans Affairs office and the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce have declared the week of Nov. 7 “Thank A Veteran Week.”
Activities for veterans are planned every day that week.
— Nov. 7 – Erie VA Vets Mobile Outreach Team will be at the Oil City VFW as well as the Venango County Veterans’ Affairs Director and a representative from the PA CareerLink from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
— Nov. 8 – A limited number of free movie tickets for honorably discharged veterans will be available at The Movies at Cranberry. Movie times are to be determined.
— Nov. 9 – Veterans Day parade in Oil City. Many local restaurants will be offering special deals to veterans.
— Nov. 10 – Franklin Middle School will host a breakfast for veterans and their guests as well as a program afterwards. The Flags for the Fallen Ceremony follows at 11 a.m. at Venango College.
— Nov. 11 – A Thank You Tribute at Venango Catholic High School with lapel pin presentation for Vietnam veterans, Veterans’ Jump Start Graduation, music, proclamations from elected officials and more. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.
Anyone who served in the armed forces from 1962 to 1975 is eligible to receive a lapel pin.
