Support group will use art to address violence

From staff reports

The PPC Violence Free Network of Family Service and Children’s Aid Society is starting a community support group for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Kiyomi Knox, a counselor and advocate with PPC, is facilitating the art-based group. Participants will use the A Windows Between World program to approach the topics.

The group is free and open to adults, and sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. on eight Tuesdays at the Family Service Carone Center at 29 Pearl Ave. in Oil City. The dates are Aug. 8 and 22, Sept. 5 and 26, Oct. 10 and 24 and Nov. 14 and 28.

Knox says participants don’t have to consider themselves as artists, and she says the groups are friendly and safe and more about the process than the end result.

Interested people are asked to register in advance for each group by emailing Knox at kknox@fscas.org or calling the Family Service business line at 676-5476 from 8:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
