Sugarcreek Borough police, in conjunction with Community Services of Venango County, will hold a Fill-A-Car donation event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, outside Walmart in Cranberry Township.
Sugarcreek police Lt. Ryan Ashbaugh said the goal is to fill two police cars with non-perishable food items and personal care and cleaning products.
Mary Jeanne Gavin, the executive director of Community Services, said the event also serves as a way to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Community Services.
Ashbaugh said there will also be a meet-and-greet with Sugarcreek patrolman Matt Johnson and senior patrolman Joe Highfield.
“We’re going to meet with the kids and get some donations to fill up the cars,” Ashbaugh said.
Police Chief Matt Carlson brought the event to the attention of Sugarcreek Borough Council at the panel’s meeting Wednesday night.
No monetary donations will be collected at the Fill-A-Car event, Ashbaugh said.
Community Services is planning to renovate its food pantry in Rocky Grove in the next couple of months, but in the meantime people who need food can still go to the Oil City food pantry for assistance, Gavin said.
