From staff reports
The Forest Area School District Student Councils organized and invited the high school student body to participate in StandOut, a movement designed to make a statement to the Commonwealth, regarding the nine-month budget impasse, and how it has adversely impacted many students in our state.
On May 6, the students hosted a “white-out”; the color white representing unity, outside of traditional school colors. Additionally, all high school students that elected to participate stood outside of their school for 9 minutes, which is how many months it took for a state budget to be passed. The goal was not to disrupt class, but to send a collective message of unity and support for one another. Many schools in Northwestern Pennsylvania elected to participate in the StandOut movement.
