On Jan. 27, seven Venango Technology Center (VTC) students were awarded the honor of being part of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) including Matthew Boal, Cadence Delaney, Jacob Dyess, Drew Frishkorn, Kelly O’Brien, Dakota Woolcock, and Matthew Woolcock.

“I am very proud to be an advisor of such a great group of students,” said Jena Seidle, Special Population Coordinator of Venango Technology Center. She believes that “they are all deserving of membership.”

“Their commitment to career and tech and the field they have chosen to study is admirable. They have maintained strong attendance and have shown exemplary academic performance!”

NTHS is a program that helps fund students and recognize them for their achievements in Career and Technical Education, with over one million alumni and $300,000 in scholarships awarded annually.

Members receive letters of recommendation and scholarships for their future career benefits, as well as a graduating diploma. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) in both VTC and Cranberry to join NTHS and have a clear path for their technical major. They must also have two letters of recommendations from teachers, write an essay, and fill out an application, which is reviewed by a faculty council that determines membership.

Cranberry and VTC student Matthew Woolcock advises to always “work hard and strive to do your best.” He also mentioned that NTHS helps to motivate him in his technical field in addition to aiding him in applying to colleges.

The seven students from Cranberry who joined this program were inducted with a pre-recorded ceremony posted to the VTC homepage on Friday, Feb. 26.
