Stoneboro man faces charges in break-in

A Stoneboro man faces charges after being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, breaking into a woman’s house in Franklin to steal her dog and attacking a man in the house.

On Wednesday at about 11 p.m., Terence Springer, 40, drove to a woman’s house on Elk Street after he had been at a bar drinking, according to a criminal complaint filed by Franklin police.

Springer had texted the woman with his intent to come to her house, and she told him to not come, the complaint said.

The complaint notes Springer, who previously had a relationship with the woman, has harassed and threatened her for the past two years along with continually messaging and calling her, and showing up at her house and place of employment at all hours of the day or night.

He arrived at the woman’s house when she was not at home and broke the glass in her storm door and the glass in the main entrance door, and entered the house with the intent of stealing the woman’s dog, the complaint said.

Once he entered the house, Springer was confronted by another man, whom Springer engaged by punching him in the face with a closed fist unprovoked, the complaint said.

The man was forced to defend himself as he attempted to get Springer out of the house while Springer continued to hit him with a closed fist, the complaint said.

The man who was in the house suffered multiple lacerations to his head and face, as well as bruising on his neck, the complaint said.

After Springer was removed from the house, he told the man and woman that he would kill them and burn the house down, the complaint said.

When police arrived, Springer was laying on the porch of the residence and required medical attention, including transport to UPMC Northwest, the complaint said.

While police were treating Springer’s injuries, they noted he showed multiple signs of impairment and threatened multiple times to shoot the man and woman, the complaint said.

Springer has been charged with felony counts of burglary-overnight accommodations: person present and criminal trespass break into structure as well as stalking-repeatedly commit acts to cause fear, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief- damage property, DUI: general impairment, and two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats.

He was arraigned Thursday and placed in Venango County jail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge Matthew Kirtland.
