From staff reports
A surprise guest made an appearance Sunday night as Tri-City Raceway Park hosted the finale of the inaugural running of the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions I-79 Summer Shootout. Thanks to the postponement of the Pocono race earlier in the day, veteran NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart made the trip to the Venango County track and, although he didn’t sign autographs or mingle with the large crowd, Stewart visited the drivers in the pits and offered encouragement.
It worked for Kraig Kinser, who made a daring last-lap pass of Sheldon Haudenschild to claim his second All-Star win of the season. Mike Pegher Jr. was the winner in RUSH Pro-Late Model action and Shawn Shingledecker picked up the win in E-Mod action.
Action will return to Tri-City on Sunday, Aug. 14, with the Toyota Dealers of Northwestern PA “Summer Showdown,” which will feature the BRP Modified Tour, RUSH Pro-Late Models and the Penn-Ohio Pro-Stocks.
