State police make arrests in child-kidnapping case

From staff reports

Mercer state police said they arrested two people on Friday afternoon in connection with a kidnapping of a 3-year-old child in New Haven, Connecticut.

Police said troopers were dispatched to Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County, when a cellphone ping placed the suspects nearby at 5:30 p.m.

A trooper then made a traffic stop on a silver Kia Soul containing three adults, who were confirmed as the suspects, police said.

The New Haven Police Department completed the charges and two of the three adults were placed in Mercer County jail; the third was released, police said.

Police said the child was placed into emergency custody with Children Youth Services until a proper custodian could be identified.
