Shippenville man accused of homicide by vehicle

David Smith, 65, of Shippenville, faces multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle while DUI, after allegedly causing a fatal crash on December 14, 2024, in Clarion Township. Police say Smith’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 322, colliding head-on with a car driven by Tammy Zacherl, 53, who died at the scene. Another driver then struck Zacherl’s vehicle from behind. Police noted the smell of alcohol on Smith and later confirmed his blood alcohol content was .256%. Smith was arraigned and is being held in Clarion County Prison without bail, with a preliminary hearing set for February 25.
