Nineteen Precious Paws Animal Rescue volunteers were asleep at the job over the weekend, but it was for a good cause.
They spent from noon Saturday to noon Sunday at the Franklin shelter — including sleeping overnight with its rescue dogs and cats — which helped to locally raise more than $12,000 for those animals during the annual nationwide event known as the “Shelter Slumber Pawty,” according to Precious Paws President Theresa Weldon.
This year marked the first time that Precious Paws participated in the event, which drew 60 shelters this year and as of Sunday morning brought in more than $800,000, Weldon said.
The volunteers talked about shelter enrichment activities, and “we did all the traditional slumber party things” as well, including snacks and treats, and playing games like Twister with the cats and spin the bottle with the dogs,” she said. “We did makeovers and nails for the dogs and cats, too.”
