Shakespeare in the Park performance

Sabre Boland (center) of Dayton, Ohio, performs a sonnet Friday evening in Franklin’s Bandstand Park at the conclusion of the first Shakespeare in the Park youth camp that was held at the Barrow-Civic Theatre this week. Classmates Armour Boland, Tristian Cornmesser and Alyssa Carpinello (from left) look on as they wait their turn to perform their chosen pieces before the gathering of about 30 family members and friends. The students said the camp, taught by the Rev. Shawn Clerkin of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Franklin, deepened their appreciation — or at least their respect — for Shakespeare, and their understanding of his works. “Performing it was very mind-opening,” Cornmesser said. “It gave more of a sense of what it was supposed to mean than just reading it on paper.”
