Several Halloween events are planned in region

Area residents should have no trouble scaring up some Halloween fun in the next few weeks. Several events have been slated in the region.

Nightmare on Main Street

COOPERSTOWN – Nightmare on Main Street will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. today and Saturday. The haunted house is located at 170 N. Main St., Cooperstown, next to the fire station. Cost is $10 per person. The haunted house runs Fridays and Saturdays through Saturday, Oct. 28. The haunted house is sponsored by the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department and proceeds benefit the department. More information is available on the event’s Facebook page.

Events at Clarion University

**Clarion University baseball and softball will hold The Haunted Gymnasium at Tippin gym at Clarion University. The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. today and Saturday and from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 26-28. The cost is $10 per person. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds go to Clarion baseball and softball.

**The Student Honors association will present a haunted dorms event from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 26-27, in Ballentine Hall. Admission is by donation.

**ABLE and the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association will host a community Halloween party from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. A costume contest will be held at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

The Leadership and Excellence Club will host trunk-or-treat event from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in Lot 12, near Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center. The event includes decorated cars, games and candy. Admission is free.

**Todd Pfannestiel and the History Club will present The Ghosts of Clarion University at 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Oct. 29-30, in Hart Chapel. Admission is free, but donations will be collected and will benefit Clarion Historical Society.

Halloween Harvest Festival

The Oil City YMCA’s Halloween Harvest Festival will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the facility on Petroleum Street.

A costume parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. The event will also include games, crafts, trick or treat, a bounce house, concessions and more.

Prizes will be awarded in several costume categories.

The festival is free to attend. Concessions will be sold during the event.

Pinegrove Halloween party

PINEGROVE TOWNSHIP – Pinegrove Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Halloween party from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall along Route 157. Admission is $5 per person and the event is open to all ages. A costume contest with prizes will be held at 7:30 p.m. Games are also planned the event. The kitchen will be open.

Fall family hayride

The Fertigs Community Center will hold a fall family hayride starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the center. The evening will include a Halloween theme, a spooky hayride through some scary wooded trails and a bonfire for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Food will be available for sale from the kitchen at family-friendly prices. There is no admission charge and hayrides and marshmallows are free.

Boo Bash, pet parade

The annual Boo Bash event and a pet parade are scheduled to be held at the Cranberry Mall.

The Boo Bash will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mall. It is open to children ages 10 years old and under. It includes games, treats, prizes and more. Children should wear costumes. Attendees should take a canned good donation per participating child for Community Services of Venango County.

A costume pet parade will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the mall. The parade will be located in Center Court. People may dress up their four-legged friends – domestic pets only – and take a pet food or pet product donation. All proceeds will benefit the Venango County Humane Society. The parade includes treats, prizes and more.

Black and White Ball

The Black and White Halloween Ball will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the National Transit Annex, at 210 Seneca St., Oil City. The event will feature music by Max Schang. There will be a silent auction to benefit Graffiti Gallery.

The event will also include the awarding of the Art Appreciation Award.

Advanced tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets at the door will be $15.

Plum Township Halloween party

The ladies’ auxiliary of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor its annual Halloween party for children in the Plum Township, Venango County area, on Saturday, Oct. 28. The party will begin promptly at 2 p.m. at the fire hall at 458 Meadville Road on Route 27 eight miles west of Titusville. There will be cookies and doughnuts with cider or lemonade. Each child will receive a bag of candy to take home. Donations for the party dropped off the day of the party or given to auxiliary members. Nancy Kopf of Chapmanville will be the emcee and lead the children in games. Following the party, treat-or-treating in Plum Township will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

Halloween parade

CLARION – A Halloween parade will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Clarion Mall. Registration runs from 11 a.m. to noon. Children will be judged in four costume categories: scariest, prettiest, cutest and most original. Prizes will be awarded. The event is free to attend.

Franklin Halloween Bash

The City of Franklin will hold its Halloween Bash on Tuesday, Oct. 31. There will be trick or treating from 4 to 5 p.m. at the downtown retailers in the 1200 block of Liberty Street. Costume judging for children ages 12 and under will be held at 5 p.m. at Bandstand Park. There will be treat bags. There will also be a “Thriller” performance by the Performing Arts Academy.

Cathedral by Candlelight

COOKSBURG – People who want to experience something different this Halloween may meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom in Cook Forest.

Attendees will walk back in time into the depths of the Forest Cathedral with an historical character from the past.

Possible tour guides include either a French Marine from the 1750s or a lumberman from the 1800s.

Candy and hot chocolate will be served at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom. People should take flashlights.

Trunk-or-treat events

CLARION – A trunk-or-treat event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Trinity Point Church of God in Clarion. The event includes treats, a bounce house, face painting, hay rides and more. The church is located behind the Clarion Tractor Supply store. The event is open to the public.

FRANKLIN – A trunk-or-treat event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the parking lot at 411 Ninth Street, behind Little Caesars Pizza. The event is sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary and Post No. 1835.

KOSSUTH – A trunk-or-treat event hosted by Fern Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at 699 Golf Course Road, Cranberry. Those attending should dress in costume and take treat bags. The event is open to the community and includes games, treats and refreshments.

POLK — A trunk-or-treat event will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Polk United Methodist Church.

Trick-or-treat times

Clarion County municipalities holding trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, include the following: Clarion Borough with a parade at 6 p.m., Farmington Township, Knox Township, New Bethlehem and South Bethlehem Borough, Paint Township, Rimersburg, Salem Township, Shippenville, Sligo, Strattanville with treats available at the Strattanville fire hall and Washington Township. Additional events in Clarion County include the Lions parade in Rimersburg which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.

Crawford County municipalities holding trick-or-treating from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, include Titusville and Cochranton.

Venango County municipalities holding trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, include the following: Canal Township, Clintonville, Cooperstown, Cranberry, Franklin, Irwin Township, Kennerdell, Oakland Township, Oil City, Pinegrove Township, President Township, Rouseville, Rockland Township, Sandycreek Township and Sugarcreek Borough.

Emlenton Borough will hold trick-or-treating from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28.

Plum Township will hold trick-or-treating from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28..

Polk Borough will hold trick-or-treating from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Pleasantville will hold trick-or-treating from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.

Other events have been scheduled in Venango County.

Rouseville Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Halloween dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the community center. There will be Halloween costume judging from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department with judges from Clintonville VFW and the Lions Club.

Tionesta in Forest County will hold trick-or-treating from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, and Brookville in Jefferson County will hold trick-or-treating hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, with a parade at 5 p.m.
