Sending love

Will you be my Furry Valentine?

People may purchase a personalized heart (or several) and let Clarion PAWS residents know how much they’re loved, according to a post on the Shippenville rescue’s Facebook page.

The hearts cost $1 each and can be purchased by mail at P.O. Box 804, Clarion, PA 16214, or via PayPal.

The hearts will be displayed outside PAWS’ residents rooms. As a bonus, anyone purchasing 10 hearts will be entered to win $50 in instant lottery tickets. The drawing will be held March 3.

Clarion PAWS residents not making the head shot gallery included Julio, Yvonne, Saint, plus 7 “M” colony kitties Smokey, Snowball, Moon Snow, Scarface, Gunner, Raja and Tigger.

The shelter also provided an update on Knoxy.

“Poor Knoxy has had quite a rough life. He came to us missing an eye, with a severe infection, and full of mats and burrs. When he got neutered he got severely infected and had to be on medicine for almost a month along with a week long vet stay,” the shelter posted on Facebook. “We thought he was healthy enough to have his eye removed and closed up but he began losing weight again. The blood work shows that Knoxy is diabetic. Luckily we have a volunteer with another diabetic who is willing to foster and get him regulated,” the shelter posted.

“Knoxy needs a home now more than ever. We will gladly teach you how to do insulin and get you set up with a vet. His love and appreciation will make having to do insulin worth it,” the post said. “Any donations to help with his bills or sharing to find this extremely sweet boy the ‘purrfect’ home are greatly appreciated.”

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Off into the sunset

The Venango County Humane Society has two cats available for adoption with what appears to be vague ties to some old westerns.

The shelter is hoping folks will ride off into the sunset with felines Miss Kitty and Reagan.

Miss Kitty was a “Gunsmoke” character while Ronald Reagan was an actor in several westerns.

While it’s not apparent that those names were in fact inspired by westerns, we are sure you’ll find the “purrfect” sidekick at the Seneca shelter.

Miss Kitty, a domestic short hair, is a 2-year-old spayed female. She has an angular head, a solid grey coat and wide green eyes.

“This little lady is curious and outgoing. Miss Kitty enjoys company and being petted,” the shelter said in a Petfinder listing.

Reagan

Reagan

Reagan, a domestic long hair, is a 6-month-old neutered male. He’s a black and tan tabby with white on his muzzle, a broad head and almond shaped yellow eyes.

“Reagan is friendly and loves attention. If you pet him around his neck, he’ll stretch right out and beg for more. This youngster will be there for you on the coldest day of winter and the brightest day of spring,” the shelter said in a Petfinder listing.

The shelter’s hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is closed Sundays and holidays.

The humane society is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca.

Fosters needed

Safehaven Small Breed Rescue of Tionesta posted a need for local fosters on its Facebook page earlier this week.

“Due to the closing of a local mill, we are in need of serious local fosters in Oil City, Franklin, Tionesta and Titusville areas. IF you are willing to open your home and your heart to one of these poor souls and teach them about life outside the cage, please email me at safehavensbr@gmail.com,” the rescue posted.

The color of snow

Tri-County Animal Rescue Center in Shippenville has snow-white beauty Anastasia available for adoption.

Anastasia

“Anastasia is a beautiful all white female. She is very friendly. She was a mom cat, and all of her babies got adopted. Now it is her turn! She gets along with other cats and is spayed,” the shelter said in a listing on its website.

“She is current on vaccines and tested negative for FIV and Leukemia. She had very pink sore ears when she arrived to us so she had little bits off her ears taken off for samples that were sent away to be tested and it is not cancerous but rather severe sun damage,” the post said.

Because of that damage the shelter does not recommend she be allowed on a sun porch or to sit in a sunny window for long periods of time.

Tricountyfundraiser

The rescue center is also holding a Valentine’s Day event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Tractor Supply in Clarion. During the event there will be a drawing for these prizes donated by Tonell Jewelry in Brookville.

First prize is a 1/2 carat diamond ring, second is a man’s watch, third is a lady’s watch and fourth through 10th are earrings. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

Tickets are available at the rescue center, at Tonell’s Jewelry & Gifts in Brookville and on the day of the event at Tractor Supply in Clarion.
