The Hasson Heights Community Church will holds its annual Santa’s Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.
The event began five years ago as when church members started a new mission designed especially for children called Santa’s Workshop.
Santa’s Workshop is a place where children can come and shop for family, friends and pets, according to event organizer Judy Fisher.
Gifts are donated by the congregation and range in price from 50 cents to $4. Children shop with the assistance of one of Santa’s elves while their parents wait in a separate room and enjoy hot coffee, tea, or cocoa and other refreshments.
When the children have completed their shopping, their gifts are wrapped and tagged and are ready to go under the Christmas tree. Santa and Mrs. Claus also pay a visit to the workshop. Invitations to Santa’s Workshop are sent to the children of Hasson Heights Elementary School each year, but other children may participate as well.
Proceeds from the event have been donated to children’s charities in the area. Some of the recipients have been Make a Wish Foundation, UPMC Northwest Pediatric Unit, and funding church camp for a child.
