Sally Bell, reporter

Sally Bell

Hi, my name is Sally Bell and I am a reporter here at The Derrick and The News-Herald.

I graduated from West Virginia University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and worked for many years in newspaper and health trade publications. I also have an associate’s degree in veterinary technology and am a certified vet tech.

My husband Drew is a Methodist pastor and we moved here last August when Drew was transferred from Irwin, Pa., to serve at East Grove United Methodist Church in Franklin and Polk United Methodist.
Drew and I are loving our time here and I am grateful that I got a job working as a reporter. I feel that I received a second chance when we moved here to work in a career that I have always loved!

Here at the paper my beats are Cranberry Township and Venango County. I am particularly interested in public health issues in our community, namely the growing drug problem. Venango County has a very active drug overdose task force that is working to confront the problem and I attend those meetings monthly.

Of course, I also love writing articles about animals! My other areas of interest are education and religion. I enjoy doing personal profile stories too because I love talking to people about their lives.
Reporting is such a special job because I get to do something different every day. Please email me with story ideas if you have them! My email address is sallybell.thederrick@gmail.com. My direct line is (814) 677-8361.
