Rocky Grove High School students, teachers and staff responded this month to a “giving tree” project that provided Christmas gifts for the children of a local family in need.
Principal Ed Baumcratz came up with the idea, and Venango County Human Services and Venango County Children and Youth Services worked with the school to develop a list of items for one family -with several children – who needed help this Christmas.
Those items were written down by office staff and the Students for Charity group, who pitched in by making Christmas figures out of foam sheets – reindeer, Santas and other patterns – on which were printed the specific gift requests.
Fifty tags that were hung on the tree were gone within two days. The staff then put up more tags, which also were quickly taken.
On Wednesday, the tree was surrounded with dozens of wrapped presents, staked about 3 feet high, that were wrapped and ready for delivery by the staff and student group.
CYS picked up the gifts Wednesday and will take them to the family for Christmas.
