The renovated Circle K Travel Center at the Strattanville exit of I-80 has transformed a long-vacant brownfield into a thriving business. Instead of building new, developers opted to rehabilitate the former Union 76 Truckstop, a process delayed by financing challenges and rising costs due to the pandemic. The facility, which may have cost up to $20 million, now features a food court with Dunkin’, Jimmy John’s, and an Indian-style restaurant, as well as new underground fuel tanks. It also includes amenities like showers, laundry, an exercise room, and a Himalayan salt-lined relaxation space. With 30-40 employees currently and plans to expand to 100, local leaders celebrate the project as a significant economic boost that will attract travelers and bring new revenue to the community.
