The remains of a person discovered on Oct. 12 on “King Island” in Forest County were identified as Christopher Smith, 51, of Warren on Thursday.
The cause and manner of the death remain officially undetermined, however Forest County Coroner Norman Wimer stated in a press release that, in working with Pennsylvania state police, nothing suspicious about the death had been discovered.
According to the press release, Wimer received two leads on Monday — one of which was from a woman who said her son had been missing since Jan. from Warren County. After Wimer spoke with Smith’s family, he subpoenaed the man’s dental records and took the remains and dental records to a forensic anthropologist at Mercyhurst College in Erie, who performed a forensic review of the remains along with a forensic odonatological analysis.
“It was a perfect, identifiable match,” said Wimer.
According to the press release, Smith, had left a rehabilitation center in Warren back in Jan., where he had been being treated.
