The self-defense classes, which will be offered free of charge, are open to people 18 and older. They will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Rhoades Auditorium on the campus of Venango College in Oil City and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Oil City YWCA.
Trained volunteers from the Venango County sheriff’s department will conduct the classes.
Participants in either class should wear comfortable clothing and plan to arrive between 6 and 6:30 to register.
Other events that are planned this month include a presentation on healthy relationships, which is scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 11, in Room 307 of Montgomery Hall at Venango College.
Kayla Hoover, a prevention and education specialist with PPC Violence Free Network, will be the speaker.
The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is set for Sunday, April 24, in Franklin.
This event features male participants walking in high heels to raise awareness about rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
Registration for the event begins at 2 p.m. and the march will start at 3 p.m. Cost to participate is $15.
PPC Violence Free Network is a program of Family Service and Children’s Aid Society.
