Police: Man with gun accused of making threatening comments

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing charges for allegedly making threatening comments while gesturing with a handgun at another person outside his Arbor Circle apartment on Saturday.

Franklin police said Nydir Edward Stewart, 20, engaged in a verbal argument with the person inside the apartment at about 1:30 p.m. before the person was forced from the apartment and onto the sidewalk.

Stewart followed the person outside and “presented” a .9 mm semi-automatic handgun from the waistband of his pants and threatened the person, according to police.

He is charged with a felony count of firearms to not be carried without a license and a misdemeanor count of simple assault.

He was arraigned before District Judge Andrew Fish on Saturday.

Stewart remains lodged in the Venango County jail on $15,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 31 in Venango County Central Court.
