SLIPPERY ROCK (AP) — State police say a woman armed with a handgun was shot and wounded by a state trooper following a domestic dispute in western Pennsylvania.
Police in Lawrence County say troopers responded just after 9 a.m. Monday to a Slippery Rock Township location where a woman was reported causing a disturbance. Troopers said a man told them the woman had been living at his residence for several weeks, and after a verbal dispute she had left on foot and had a handgun.
Police said two troopers located her and found her armed with a handgun, which she refused to drop. Troopers said they then fired, striking her once. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The troopers were uninjured.
Police said 55-year-old Maria Carmen Rozzi of New Castle would face charges of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and harassment. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she had an attorney, and a working number listed in her name couldn’t be found Monday.
