PennDOT seeking students to paint the plow

From staff reports

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is asking high school students in the northwest region to participate in its Paint the Plow art outreach program.

The program challenges teens to take the theme “Don’t Rush in Ice and Slush” and incorporate it into an original mural that they paint on one of PennDOT’s snow plow blades.

“Paint the Plow is a great opportunity for community partnership with our local schools,” said Jim Foringer, district executive for PennDOT’s six-county northwest region. “We want to promote safety and this program allows students to be a part of that message,” he said.

Paint the Plow was piloted in Cambria County in 2015 and later expanded to several surrounding counties. Last year, students in Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties participated.

Paint the Plow art and social media contests will be held in Crawford, Erie, Mercer and Venango counties as well as a combined contest for Forest and Warren counties. Students in public and private schools are eligible to participate, though school officials must make the arrangements. Plow delivery and pick-up dates vary by county.
