PennDOT announces winner of ‘Paint the Plow’ contest

From staff reports

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that the Venango County regional winner of the “Paint the Plow” safety outreach contest is Rocky Grove High School.

Rocky Grove High School won the “Fan Favorite” award, which was determined by online voting. The plow depicts the school mascot along with the message “Orioles Don’t Crowd the Plow.” The school also won the “Judges’ Pick,” which was chosen through voting by PennDOT employees at the Venango County maintenance facility.

The “Paint the Plow” promotes winter driving safety and fosters appreciation for high school art programs.

During the winter weather season, the blade, as well as one decorated by Oil City High School, will be used to maintain state-owned roadways in Venango County.

Members of the public can view photos the painted plow blades online at the PennDOT Facebook page. Pictures of each plow are posted in the Venango County photo album.

Online voting is open for a similar effort through PennDOT’s facilities in Warren and Forest counties.

“Paint the Plow” is a joint effort of PennDOT and area high school art programs. Students are invited to paint a plow blade with an original design based on a regional theme. The theme for the Venango County program was “Don’t Crowd the Plow.” It was chosen to draw attention to need for motorists to give plow truck drivers ample space to do their job and to never pass two trucks operating in a plow line.
