Payless shoe store in Cranberry is closing.

Late last week, the store was listed on a list of stores “under negotiation” on Payless’ website.

Since then, the Cranberry Payless on Kimberly Lane across from Walmart has moved to an updated list of “store closures.” Other Pennsylvania Payless shoe stores on the closings list include those in Doylestown, Royersford and Allentown.

Eleven additional Payless stores are now listed as “under negotiation” on the website. Most of those additional stores are in the eastern part of the state although some are central and one is in Erie.

On its website, Payless said that the store closures were part of a “restructuring” effort that follows the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing April 4.

In total, Payless is seeking U. S. Bankruptcy Court approval to close 112 stores in the U. S. and Puerto Rico and is also seeking the authority to close up to an additional 296 stores in those regions, said Meghan Spreer, a senior analyst with Payless corporate communications.

Payless’ website includes a FAQ for customers. It answers questions regarding the honoring of gift cards and returns and other issues.

Anyone who has questions can also call (844) 648-5574.

The exact date that the Cranberry store will close hasn’t been officially announced, and information wasn’t available about how many employees work there.

Regarding employees of stores that are closing, the company said, on the website: “We will make every effort to offer open positions at nearby stores to associates whose store is closing. If there is not an available opening, Payless associates will receive severance pay and, if eligible, benefits to help in their career transition.”
