Oil Valley Film Festival will feature Oscar winners

From staff reports

The seventh annual Oil Valley Film Festival is returning to its full pre-pandemic form with events taking place at the Oil City Library on Central Avenue and the National Transit Building in downtown Oil City from Friday to Sunday, Sept. 9-11.

This year’s festival with feature a handful of former Academy Award-winning actors in represented films, including both the late Cloris Leachman and Olympia Dukakis in their final roles on screen.

Louis Gossett Jr., Tatum O’Neal and George Chakiris round out the list of former Oscar winners that audiences will be able to watch.

“We’re really excited to be putting together a wonderful lineup of films, once again, for the Oil Region to enjoy,” said Matt Croyle, the festival’s founder and director.

He added, “We’ve been able to endure a rough couple of years with the pandemic, but we’ve been able to persevere where a lot of small-to-mid-sized festivals have not… We were able to show filmmakers and screenwriters that we’ll fight to find them an audience even in the face of something as drastic as a global pandemic.”

Other artists at this year’s festival are Stephen Fry (“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and “Gosford Park”) and Britt Lower (AppleTV+’s “Severance”).

There will be special guest interviews with writer and director Al White and Suzanne Romero, founder and director of the George A. Romero Foundation.

The festival remains free to attend in person, but proof of vaccination will be required to attend without a mask.

A full list of films will be released soon.
