Oil Region Cycling Classic starts Friday

Bicyclists can look forward to the Oil Region Cycling Classic starting Friday and running through Sunday on designated trails in Venango County.

Franklin will serve as the hub for the event, with Oil City, Titusville, Emlenton and Van/Fisherman’s Cove being highlighted along the way.

On Friday, the tour will run from Franklin down to Emlenton. Sights along the way will include the Kennerdell Tunnel and Indian God Rock.

Cyclists are encouraged to attend a meet and greet at 6 p.m. Friday at Franklin Elks Lodge 110.

Musical entertainment will be available in Franklin through Sunday at Bandstand Park, Benjamin’s Roadhouse and Bella Cucina. Other attractions include DeBence Antique Music Museum, St. John’s Tiffany window tour and the Barrow-Civic Theatre.

The tour begins Saturday in Franklin and heads into Oil City and Titusville. Cyclists may bike back or take a ride on the Oil City and Titusville Railroad.

In Oil City, people may visit the Graffiti Gallery, Art Inside Pennsylvania open studio tour, Venango Museum and Tipsy Chef. Hanna, Williamson and Schick will also be providing live musical entertainment in Justus Park Friday evening.

Titusville sights include the Tarbell House, Perry Street Train Station and live music outside the Benson Memorial Library.

On the last day, the tour will go down to Belmar Bridge, and cyclists will have the option of riding up to Van or down to Fisherman’s Cove.

Those headed to Van can view seven different bridges and pass through Rockland Tunnel.

The Fisherman’s Cove route allows people to rent a kayak or canoe from OARS in Franklin and float down the Allegheny River before biking back into town.
