Oil Heritage events start today

Oil City’s annual Oil Heritage Festival, which is set for July 22-25, is chock full of activities.

This year’s celebration will mark the 43rd anniversary of the city festival, which is hosted by the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce.

As part of the festival, the annual Hop Homan and Chops Cunningham Memorial Softball Tournament is being held today through Sunday at Hasson Heights and Mitchell fields.

Several other events are being held in conjunction with the festival, some beginning Saturday. Following is a schedule of events:

Saturday

11 a.m. – Oil Heritage Raft Race, Henry’s Bend to Justus Park

3 to 6 p.m. – FLEX Bike ‘n Brew, Venango Chamber Courtyard, 24 Seneca St., Oil City

Tuesday, July 20

7 p.m. – Music at the Museum, Pine Valley Boys, Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry.

Wednesday, July 21

4 to 8 p.m. – Elks Club chicken barbecue, Sycamore Street; $12

6 to 9 p.m. – Art Show reception and grand opening, National Transit Building

6:30 p.m. – Humane Society Pet Show, registration at 6 p.m., Justus Park

6:45 p.m. – Youth Alternatives Tiny Tots Contest, winners announced, Justus Park

7 to 9 p.m. – Music on the Square, Max Schang’s Trio of Blues, Town Square; hosted by Oil City Main Street Program

Thursday, July 22

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Friends of the Library book sale, Oil City Library basement

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Oil City farmer’s market, Central Avenue plaza

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Touch-a-Truck, Central Avenue plaza

12 noon to 6 p.m. – Children’s Pool Party, James A. Nelles Memorial Pool; noon to 3 p.m. for ages up to 6, and 3 to 6 p.m. for ages 7 to 12; free

Noon to 4 p.m. – Oil Heritage Art Shows, National Transit Building, National Transit Annex, 42 Seneca St.

4:30 to 6:30 p.m. – YWCA spaghetti supper, 109 Central Ave.; takeout only; $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 4 to 12, free to those ages 3 and younger

5 to 7 p.m. – Children’s Goodie Bags, Oil City Library; for children in pre-K through sixth grade

5 to 6 p.m. – Mostly Brass concert, Central Avenue plaza

6 to 8 p.m. – FLEX ice cream social, Central Avenue plaza

5 to 8 p.m. – Pork chop dinner, First Presbyterian Church; $10 per meal; take-out only; hosted by Boy Scout Troop 17

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Old Fashioned Photo Shoot, 42 Seneca St.; $10; costumes provided

11 a.m. – Bike Rodeo, registration, parking lot of new multimodal transportation hub, sponsored by PennDOT, lunch provided.

Noon to 6 p.m. – Art Show, 42, 206, and 210 Seneca St.

1 and 2:30 p.m. – Church tours, beginning at Second Presbyterian; churches include Second Presbyterian, Christ Episcopal, Zion Lutheran, Trinity and Calvary; 20 to 30 minutes at each church.

1 to 4 p.m. – Jeep Cruise-In meet and greet and karaoke, Central Avenue plaza

5 p.m. – Oil Heritage parade, Orange Street to Seneca Street, Oil City; www.venangochamber.org.

5 p.m. – Community picnic, Second Presbyterian Church, Oil City; hot dogs, chips, water, while supplies last.

7 to 10 p.m. – Concert by The Clarks, Justus Park

10 p.m. – Fireworks Spectacular, Justus Park

Sunday, July 25

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Old Fashioned Photo Shoot, 42 Seneca St.; $10; costumes provided

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Artisan & Fine Craft Festival, Town Square.

Noon to 4 p.m. – Oil Heritage Art Shows, National Transit Building, National Transit Annex, 42 Seneca St.

Noon to 6 p.m. – Elks Club vendor show, Oil City Elks Club; refreshments available; free admission.

Noon to 4 p.m. – Car and Motorcycle Cruise-In, Seneca Street; $5 entry; free T-shirt to first 100 registrants.

2 p.m. – Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, Oil City High School football field; ages 15 and up; $5 per person; teams will be made there; participants asked to take a navy/royal blue and a white shirt.

The Oil Heritage Week headquarters is located at 42 Seneca St. The hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
