Oil cleanup on river continues

Since August, 40 to 60 gallons of oil per trip are being removed from the Allegheny River, near Sandycreek Township, though the exact source of the seepage remains unknown. The EPA, using containment booms and vacuum systems, has extracted about 2,200 gallons of oil and reduced the amount seeping into the river recently. The leak, first noticed by kayakers, is close to shore but challenging to access, requiring emergency teams to hand-dig paths. A recent geophysical survey by the EPA identified potential leak sources, with more updates expected soon.
