Several Oil City firefighters were training in firefighter survival Monday at a home on Petroleum Street across from the YMCA.
The firefighters practiced several ways of escaping a house quickly like they would if a situation deteriorated at the scene of a structure fire and they needed to get out immediately, fire chief Derek Long said.
The firefighters practiced rappelling down the side of the house and crawling head first out a window and down a ladder.
In a situation where firefighters needed to get out of a building quickly, they could use their tools to secure ropes and then get out of a window and rappel to the ground using the rope, Long said.
Long said each firefighter carries a rope and a tool at all times.
Marsh Heating and Cooling, which owns the home, let the fire department use it for training, Long said.
