Oil City Christmas tree comes down

Many people might have been wondering when the Christmas tree that has been in Oil City’s Towne Square since November was going to come down. On Monday, it happened.

The reason the 38-foot-tall spruce tree was left up so long is that each time a day was planned to take it down, there was a storm advisory or high winds or extremely cold temperatures, City Manager Mark Schroyer said.

On Monday morning, after the lights had been removed over the weekend by volunteers, King’s Landscaping employees Josh Lam and Kody Williams chopped up the tree and hauled it away. Lam said they were working on the tree for several hours.

Every year, the Oil City Rotary Club plays a large role in setting up and decorating the annual Christmas tree, with help from volunteers with King’s Landscaping and Paul Bunyan Tree Specialists, among others.
